The Scottish Premiership is the highest category in professional football in Scotland. The competition under this name was born in 2013, after the merger between the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League. The national league as such has been in dispute since 1890.The classification of the Scottish Premiership marks the future of the participants at the end of the season. In case of equality to points, it is broken through the overall goal difference. The champion qualifies for the play-off that gives access to the Champions League. The second classified enters the second round of the preliminary phase of the same competition. The next two in the table get a place in the Europa Conference League. The third enters the third preliminary round, while the fourth enters the second round. The penultimate classified disputes a tie to stay in the highest division. The last one, descends directly to the Scottish Championship.Scotland football cannot be imagined without Celtic FC and Rangers FC. The two clubs have dominated the Scottish Premiership with an iron fist throughout their history. They add more than 50 wound each one while the rest of the teams is not even close to reaching ten. The duopoly is so strong that they have grabbed every title since they conquered Aberdeen in 1984.One of the curiosities of this league is that its first edition had two champions. Dumbarton and Rangers FC finished with 29 points in the standings. To break the equality, a tiebreaker match was set on May 21, 1891. The match ended with a result of 2-2 and, as there were no more dates available in the calendar to play, the decision was made to crown as winners to the two clubs.
